Kostas Arvanitis was born in June, 1964. He grew up in Athens, in the neighbourhood of Sepolia.

From a young age, he was politically active, first in the Communist Youth, and later in the Communist Party of Greece.

He actively participated in the student movement and local government.

Since 1984, he has been active in the field of journalism, employed as a journalist, TV anchor and radio host.

He played a crucial part in the creation of AKIMME, the first inter-municipal news agency, where he served as editor-in-chief.

Following that, he worked at a number of radio and TV stations, in a variety of posts:

Athina 98.4, DIAVLOS 10, Xenios Ano Liosion, 931 Tick-Tack, ELLADA FM (as director), FLASH 96 (as editor-in-chief), Second Program (ERT), ERA 1 (ERT), 105.8, The voice of Greece, Diesi (news director), Vima (Program Manager),  Mega Channel (editor-in-chief of the Ellispontos programme and presenter of the channel’s morning show), NET, ERT1 and ERA Sport.

He was fired from ERT because of his public pro-protestor stance on the matters of Keratea and strike action, in the programme “Morning Briefing.” The programme was subsequently cancelled, under the directive of the Samaras administration.

In May 2013, he assumed the post of Director in the “Sto Kokkino” radio station, until October 2016. Following that, he worked as Senior News Director on 24MEDIA, a position he quit due to a disagreement with the company’s later policy changes.

Until March 2019, he presented the ERT1 everyday news programme “Alli Diastasi”. He is a member of ESIEA (Journalists’ Union). He has collaborated with numerous Athens newspapers and magazines.

He was a board member of KETHEA (Therapy Centre for Dependent Individuals) for a number of years, and served as it’s vice-president, until 2017.

He worked as a coach, and on posts related for Athenian football Academies, in numerous football clubs.

Lastly, he held the unpaid position of vice-president in the Apollon Smyrni’s football club.

He is a member of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, active in his home municipality of Penteli.

In May 2019 he was elected MEP with SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.
