Another victory in the fight against narcotics and addiction, by the Left!
The proposal to reform and strengthen the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction was adopted by the LIBE Committee with 52 votes in favor, 1 against and 2 abstentions.
82 of our amendments tabled on behalf of the Left were adopted to the final text, marking a decisive contribution, in an an outcome of this political fight, which would not have been possible without the Left´s support.
With these we ensure that the Proposal for a Regulation includes:
-Recovery programmes
-The therapeutic communities, such as the KETHEA, 18 ANO and other, public structures, with their unparalleled expertise and valuable work, which were in danger of not being included
-Assigning special emphasis to reintegration policies
-The horizontal strengthening of the scientific substantiation of practices.
We will continue to fight, with every institutional step, to give the necessary instruments to those families and persons who are confronting the monster of drug addiction daily.
In the face of the scourge of narcotics and addiction, we stand up for solidarity, science, rehabilitation and humanism.
For the lost children.
For those families that bear an unbearable pain.
For everyone in communities around Europe, fighting to heal or to be healed.
For all of us who believe that when people stand up, the world will change in response.
